As part of my doctorate, I researched extensively in the field of Word and Music Studies, primarily exploring the musicality of words and the composition of poetry as a form of music. As part of my university works, I have completed a number of large scale poetry projects based on historic persons and places, including Pembroke Castle (Sea Softened Stones), Tatton Park (Cracked Tines), Strata Florida (Carta Caritatis), Penrhyn Castle (Tongues of Sugared Stone), Richard III (The White Boar), and the town of Ludlow (Unsained Strings).
Since moving away from the universities I have continued to take on written projects for individuals and organisations and have completed commissioned works for The Heritage Heroes Project and FiLiGi (charity proposals, fact cards, interactive poems and prose), Sweet Cherry Press (learn-to-read phonics books), and The Sir John Moore Foundation (an accessible poetry pamphlet to encourage public engagement - published as (Re-) Living History in 2019).
I still compose texts for songs, libretti, and short poetic sequences, and have taken commissions from various composers including Ray E. Leung, E. M. Mason, J. Bowers, C. Poon, and S. E. Westwood. Many of my recent projects have been for British composer Sarah Westwood (https://www.sarah-westwood.com/works), who has performed and won competitions for her work both in Britain and internationally. Our last piece together was the chamber work, speaking within | fragmented lines, (Salzburg 2019) which explores themes of fragmentation and silence.
